1 In the beginning, our Heavenly Father created the heavens and the earth.

1 태초에 우리 하늘 아버지께서 하늘과 땅을 창조하셨습니다.

2 Now the earth was formless and empty, darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of our Father was hovering over the surface of the waters.

2 그때에 땅은 형태가 없고 비어 있었으며, 어둠이 깊음의 표면을 덮고 있었고, 우리 아버지의 영이 물의 표면 위에 운행하고 계셨습니다.

3 Then our Father said, "Let there be light," and there was light.

3 그때에 우리 아버지께서 말씀하셨습니다. “빛이 있으라.” 그러자 빛이 있었습니다.

4 He saw that the light was good, and he separated the light from the darkness.

4 그분께서 그 빛이 좋은 것을 보시고, 빛과 어둠을 나누셨습니다.

5 He called the light "day," and the darkness he called "night." And there was evening, and there was morning—the first day.

5 그분께서 빛을 “낮”이라 부르시고, 어둠은 “밤”이라 부르셨습니다. 저녁이 되고 아침이 되니—첫째 날이었습니다.

6 And our Father said, "Let there be an expanse between the waters to separate water from water."

6 그리고 우리 아버지께서 말씀하셨습니다. “물 가운데 궁창이 있어 물과 물을 나누게 하라.”

7 So he made the expanse and separated the water under the expanse from the water above it. And it was so.

7 그래서 그분께서 궁창을 만드시고 궁창 아래의 물과 궁창 위의 물을 나누셨습니다. 그대로 되었습니다.

8 He called the expanse "sky." So there was evening, and there was morning—the second day.

8 그분께서 궁창을 “하늘”이라 부르셨습니다. 그리하여 저녁이 되고 아침이 되니—둘째 날이었습니다.

9 Then our Father said, "Let the water under the sky be gathered to one place, and let dry ground appear." And it was so.

9 그때에 우리 아버지께서 말씀하셨습니다. “하늘 아래의 물은 한곳으로 모이고, 마른 땅이 드러나게 하라.” 그대로 되었습니다.

10 He called the dry ground "land," and the gathered waters he called "seas." And he saw that it was good.

10 그분께서 마른 땅을 “뭍”이라 부르시고, 모인 물은 “바다”라 부르셨습니다. 그리고 그것이 좋은 것을 보셨습니다.

11 Then he said, "Let the land produce vegetation: seed-bearing plants and trees that bear seed-bearing fruit, each according to its kind." And it was so.

11 그때에 그분께서 말씀하셨습니다. “땅은 초목을 내라. 씨 맺는 식물과 씨 맺는 열매를 맺는 나무를 그 종류대로 내라.” 그대로 되었습니다.

12 The land produced vegetation: seed-bearing plants according to their kinds and trees bearing seed-bearing fruit according to their kinds. And our Father saw that it was good.

12 땅이 초목을 내었으니, 씨 맺는 식물을 그 종류대로, 씨 맺는 열매를 맺는 나무를 그 종류대로 내었습니다. 그리고 우리 아버지께서 그것이 좋은 것을 보셨습니다.

13 And there was evening, and there was morning—the third day.

13 저녁이 되고 아침이 되니—셋째 날이었습니다.

14 And our Father said, "Let there be lights in the expanse of the sky to separate the day from the night, and let them serve as signs to mark the seasons, the days, and the years,"

14 그리고 우리 아버지께서 말씀하셨습니다. “하늘 궁창에 광명체들이 있어 낮과 밤을 나누고, 계절과 날과 해를 나타내는 표징이 되게 하라.

15 "and let them be lights in the expanse of the sky to give light on the earth." And it was so.

15 또한 그것들이 하늘 궁창에서 광명체가 되어 땅을 비추게 하라.” 그대로 되었습니다.

16 Our Father made two great lights: the greater light to govern the day and the lesser light to govern the night. He also made the stars.

16 우리 아버지께서 두 큰 광명체를 만드셨으니, 큰 광명체는 낮을 다스리게 하시고 작은 광명체는 밤을 다스리게 하셨습니다. 또한 별들도 만드셨습니다.

17 He set them in the expanse of the sky to give light on the earth,

17 그분께서 그것들을 하늘 궁창에 두어 땅을 비추게 하시고,

18 to govern the day and the night, and to separate light from darkness. And he saw that it was good.

18 낮과 밤을 다스리며 빛과 어둠을 나누게 하셨습니다. 그리고 그것이 좋은 것을 보셨습니다.

19 So there was evening, and there was morning—the fourth day.

19 그리하여 저녁이 되고 아침이 되니—넷째 날이었습니다.

20 Then our Father said, "Let the water teem with living creatures, and let birds fly above the earth across the expanse of the sky."

20 그때에 우리 아버지께서 말씀하셨습니다. “물은 생물로 번성하고, 새들은 땅 위 하늘 궁창을 가로질러 날게 하라.”

21 So he created the great sea creatures and every living creature that moves and teems in the water, each according to its kind, and every winged bird according to its kind. And he saw that it was good.

21 그래서 그분께서 큰 바다 생물들과 물에서 움직이며 번성하는 모든 생물을 그 종류대로, 그리고 날개 달린 모든 새를 그 종류대로 창조하셨습니다. 그리고 그것이 좋은 것을 보셨습니다.

22 Our Father blessed them and said, "Be fruitful and multiply and fill the water in the seas, and let the birds multiply on the earth."

22 우리 아버지께서 그것들에게 복을 주시며 말씀하셨습니다. “생육하고 번성하여 바다의 물을 채우고, 새들도 땅에서 번성하게 하라.”

23 And there was evening, and there was morning—the fifth day.

23 저녁이 되고 아침이 되니—다섯째 날이었습니다.

24 And our Father said, "Let the land produce living creatures according to their kinds: livestock, creatures that move along the ground, and wild animals, each according to its kind." And it was so.

24 그리고 우리 아버지께서 말씀하셨습니다. “땅은 생물을 그 종류대로 내라. 곧 가축과 땅 위를 기는 생물과 들짐승을 그 종류대로 내라.” 그대로 되었습니다.

25 He made the wild animals according to their kinds, the livestock according to their kinds, and all the creatures that move along the ground according to their kinds. And he saw that it was good.

25 그분께서 들짐승을 그 종류대로, 가축을 그 종류대로, 땅 위를 기는 모든 생물을 그 종류대로 만드셨습니다. 그리고 그것이 좋은 것을 보셨습니다.

26 Then our Father said, "Let us make humanity in our image, in our likeness, so that they may rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky, over the livestock, over all the earth, and over every creature that moves along the ground."

26 그때에 우리 아버지께서 말씀하셨습니다. “우리가 우리의 형상대로, 우리의 모양대로 사람을 만들고, 그들이 바다의 물고기와 하늘의 새와 가축과 온 땅과 땅 위를 기는 모든 생물을 다스리게 하자.”

27 So our Father created humanity in their own image; in the image of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit he created them; male and female he created them.

27 그리하여 우리 아버지께서 사람을 그들 자신의 형상대로 창조하셨으니, 곧 성부와 성자와 성령의 형상대로 그들을 창조하셨고, 남자와 여자로 그들을 창조하셨습니다.

28 Our Father blessed them and said to them, "Be fruitful and multiply; fill the earth and subdue it. Rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky, and over every living creature that moves on the ground."

28 우리 아버지께서 그들에게 복을 주시며 그들에게 말씀하셨습니다. “생육하고 번성하여 땅을 채우고 그것을 정복하라. 바다의 물고기와 하늘의 새와 땅 위를 움직이는 모든 생물을 다스리라.”

29 Then he said, "I give you every seed-bearing plant on the face of the whole earth and every tree that bears seed-bearing fruit. They will be yours for food.

29 그때에 그분께서 말씀하셨습니다. “보라, 내가 온 땅 위의 씨 맺는 모든 식물과 씨 맺는 열매를 맺는 모든 나무를 너희에게 준다. 그것들이 너희의 양식이 될 것이다.

30 "And to all the animals of the earth, all the birds in the sky, and all the creatures that move along the ground—everything that has the breath of life in it—I give every green plant for food." And it was so.

30 또 땅의 모든 짐승과 하늘의 모든 새와 땅 위를 기는 모든 것—곧 생명의 호흡이 있는 모든 것에게—내가 모든 푸른 식물을 양식으로 준다.” 그대로 되었습니다.

31 Our Father saw all that he had made, and it was very good. So there was evening, and there was morning—the sixth day.

31 우리 아버지께서 그분이 만드신 모든 것을 보시니, 심히 좋았습니다. 그리하여 저녁이 되고 아침이 되니—여섯째 날이었습니다.

1 Now there was a man of the Pharisees named Nicodemus, a ruler of the Jews.

1 그런데 바리새인 중에 니고데모라는 사람이 있었으니, 그는 유대인의 지도자였습니다.

2 This man came to Jesus by night and said to him, "Rabbi, we know that you are a teacher who has come from our Father, for no one can do these signs that you do unless our Father is with him."

2 이 사람이 밤에 예수님께 와서 그분께 말하였습니다. “랍비여, 우리는 당신이 우리 아버지께로부터 오신 선생이신 줄을 압니다. 우리 아버지께서 함께하지 않으시면 아무도 당신이 행하시는 이런 표적들을 행할 수 없기 때문입니다.”

3 Jesus replied to him, "Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born again he cannot see the kingdom of our Father."

3 예수님께서 그에게 대답하셨습니다. “진실로 진실로 네게 이르노니, 누구든지 거듭나지 아니하면 우리 아버지의 나라를 볼 수 없느니라.”

4 Nicodemus said to him, "How can a man be born when he is old? Can he enter a second time into his mother's womb and be born?"

4 니고데모가 그분께 말하였습니다. “사람이 늙으면 어떻게 태어날 수 있습니까? 두 번째로 어머니의 태에 들어갔다가 태어날 수 있습니까?”

5 Jesus answered, "Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Holy Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of our Father."

5 예수님께서 대답하셨습니다. “진실로 진실로 네게 이르노니, 누구든지 물과 성령으로 나지 아니하면 우리 아버지의 나라에 들어갈 수 없느니라.”

6 What is born of the flesh is flesh, and what is born of the Holy Spirit is spirit.

6 육으로 난 것은 육이요, 성령으로 난 것은 영이니라.

7 Don't be amazed that I said to you, 'You must be born again.'

7 내가 너희에게 ‘너희가 거듭나야 하리라’ 한 것을 놀랍게 여기지 말라.

8 The wind blows where it wishes, and you hear its sound, but you do not know where it comes from or where it goes. So it is with everyone who is born of the Holy Spirit.

8 바람은 임의로 불매 네가 그 소리는 들어도 어디서 와서 어디로 가는지 알지 못하나니, 성령으로 난 사람도 다 그와 같으니라.

9 Nicodemus said to him, "How can these things be?"

9 니고데모가 그분께 말하였습니다. “어떻게 이런 일들이 있을 수 있습니까?”

10 Jesus answered him, "Are you the teacher of Israel and yet you do not understand these things?"

10 예수님께서 그에게 대답하셨습니다. “네가 이스라엘의 선생이면서 이런 것들을 알지 못하느냐?”

11 Truly, truly, I say to you, we speak of what we know, and bear witness to what we have seen, but you do not receive our testimony.

11 진실로 진실로 네게 이르노니, 우리는 우리가 아는 것을 말하고 우리가 본 것을 증언하나, 너희는 우리의 증언을 받아들이지 아니하는도다.

12 If I have told you earthly things and you do not believe, how can you believe if I tell you heavenly things?

12 내가 땅의 일을 너희에게 말하여도 너희가 믿지 아니하거든, 하물며 하늘의 일을 너희에게 말하면 어찌 믿겠느냐?

13 No one has ascended into heaven except the one who descended from heaven, the Son of Man.

13 하늘에서 내려온 이 곧 인자 외에는 하늘에 올라간 자가 없느니라.

14 And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, so must the Son of Man be lifted up,

14 모세가 광야에서 뱀을 든 것같이, 인자도 들려야 하리니,

15 that whoever believes in him may have eternal life.

15 이는 그를 믿는 자마다 영생을 얻게 하려 함이니라.

16 For our Father so loved the world, that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.

16 우리 아버지께서 세상을 이처럼 사랑하사 그분의 유일하신 아들을 주셨으니, 이는 그를 믿는 자마다 멸망하지 않고 영생을 얻게 하려 함이라.

17 For our Father did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but so that the world might be saved through him.

17 우리 아버지께서 그분의 아들을 세상에 보내신 것은 세상을 정죄하려 하심이 아니요, 그를 통하여 세상을 구원하려 하심이라.

18 Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the one and only Son of our Father.

18 그를 믿는 자는 정죄를 받지 아니하나, 믿지 아니하는 자는 우리 아버지의 유일하신 아들의 이름을 믿지 아니하므로 이미 정죄를 받은 것이라.

19 And this is the judgment: the light has come into the world, and people loved the darkness rather than the light because their works were evil.

19 그 정죄는 이것이니, 곧 빛이 세상에 왔으되 사람들이 자기 행위가 악하므로 빛보다 어둠을 더 사랑한 것이라.

20 For everyone who does wicked things hates the light and does not come to the light, for fear that his works will be exposed.

20 악을 행하는 자마다 빛을 미워하여 빛으로 나아오지 아니하나니, 이는 자기 행위가 드러날까 두려워함이라.

21 But whoever does what is true comes to the light, so that it may be clearly seen that his works have been carried out in our Father.

21 그러나 진리를 행하는 자는 빛으로 나아오나니, 이는 그의 행위가 우리 아버지 안에서 행하여진 것임이 분명히 드러나게 하려 함이라.

22 After this, Jesus and his disciples went into the Judean countryside, and there he remained with them and was baptizing.

22 이 일 후에 예수님께서 제자들과 함께 유대 지방으로 가셔서, 거기서 그들과 함께 머무시며 세례를 베푸셨습니다.

23 John also was baptizing at Aenon near Salim, because water was plentiful there, and people were coming and being baptized,

23 요한도 살림 가까운 애논에서 세례를 베풀고 있었으니, 거기 물이 많기 때문이었습니다. 그래서 사람들이 와서 세례를 받았습니다.

24 for John had not yet been put in prison.

24 이는 요한이 아직 옥에 갇히지 아니하였을 때였습니다.

25 Now a discussion arose between some of John's disciples and a Jew over purification.

25 그런데 요한의 제자 중 몇 사람과 한 유대인 사이에 정결예식에 관하여 논쟁이 일어났습니다.

26 And they came to John and said to him, "Rabbi, he who was with you across the Jordan, to whom you bore witness—look, he is baptizing, and all are going to him."

26 그들이 요한에게 와서 그에게 말하였습니다. “랍비여, 요단강 건너편에서 당신과 함께 계셨고 당신이 증언하시던 그분—보십시오, 그분이 세례를 베푸시니 모든 사람이 그분께로 가고 있습니다.”

27 John replied, "A person cannot receive even one thing unless it is given him from heaven."

27 요한이 대답하였습니다. “하늘에서 주시지 아니하면 사람이 한 가지도 받을 수 없습니다.”

28 You yourselves can testify that I said, 'I am not the Christ, but I have been sent before him.'

28 내가 ‘나는 그리스도가 아니요, 그분보다 앞서 보내심을 받은 자라’ 한 것을 너희 자신이 증언할 수 있느니라.

29 The one who has the bride is the bridegroom — Jesus. The friend of the bridegroom, who stands and hears him, rejoices greatly at the bridegroom's voice. Therefore this joy of mine is now complete.

29 신부를 차지하는 이는 신랑이니—곧 예수님이시라. 신랑의 친구는 서서 신랑의 음성을 듣고 크게 기뻐하나니, 그러므로 나의 이 기쁨이 이제 충만하니라.

30 He must increase, but I must decrease.

30 그분은 흥하여야 하겠고, 나는 쇠하여야 하리라.

31 The one who comes from above is above all. The one who is of the earth belongs to the earth and speaks in an earthly way. The one who comes from heaven is above all.

31 위로부터 오시는 이는 만물 위에 계시고, 땅에서 난 자는 땅에 속하여 땅의 일을 말하느니라. 하늘로부터 오시는 이는 만물 위에 계시니라.

32 He bears witness to what he has seen and heard, yet no one receives his testimony.

32 그분은 보고 들으신 것을 증언하시되, 아무도 그분의 증언을 받아들이지 아니하는도다.

33 Whoever receives his testimony confirms that our Father is true.

33 그분의 증언을 받아들이는 자는 우리 아버지께서 참되심을 인친 것이라.

34 For the one whom our Father has sent speaks the words of our Father, for he gives the Holy Spirit without measure.

34 우리 아버지께서 보내신 이는 우리 아버지의 말씀을 전하시나니, 이는 그분께서 성령을 한량없이 주심이라.

35 Our Father loves the Son and has given all things into his hand.

35 우리 아버지께서 아들을 사랑하사 만물을 그분의 손에 맡기셨느니라.

36 Whoever believes in the Son has eternal life; whoever does not obey the Son shall not see life, but the wrath of our Father remains on him.

36 아들을 믿는 자에게는 영생이 있고, 아들에게 순종하지 아니하는 자는 생명을 보지 못하리니, 도리어 우리 아버지의 진노가 그 위에 머물러 있느니라.
