1 In the beginning, our Heavenly Father created the heavens and the earth.

1 In principio, il nostro Padre celeste creò i cieli e la terra.

2 Now the earth was formless and empty, darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of our Father was hovering over the surface of the waters.

2 Ora la terra era informe e vuota, le tenebre coprivano la superficie dell'abisso, e lo Spirito del nostro Padre aleggiava sulla superficie delle acque.

3 Then our Father said, "Let there be light," and there was light.

3 Allora il nostro Padre disse: «Sia la luce», e la luce fu.

4 He saw that the light was good, and he separated the light from the darkness.

4 Vide che la luce era buona, e separò la luce dalle tenebre.

5 He called the light "day," and the darkness he called "night." And there was evening, and there was morning—the first day.

5 Chiamò la luce «giorno», e le tenebre le chiamò «notte». E fu sera, e fu mattina: il primo giorno.

6 And our Father said, "Let there be an expanse between the waters to separate water from water."

6 E il nostro Padre disse: «Vi sia una distesa fra le acque, che separi le acque dalle acque».

7 So he made the expanse and separated the water under the expanse from the water above it. And it was so.

7 Così fece la distesa e separò le acque che sono sotto la distesa dalle acque che sono sopra di essa. E così fu.

8 He called the expanse "sky." So there was evening, and there was morning—the second day.

8 Chiamò la distesa «cielo». Così fu sera, e fu mattina: il secondo giorno.

9 Then our Father said, "Let the water under the sky be gathered to one place, and let dry ground appear." And it was so.

9 Allora il nostro Padre disse: «Le acque che sono sotto il cielo si raccolgano in un solo luogo, e appaia l'asciutto». E così fu.

10 He called the dry ground "land," and the gathered waters he called "seas." And he saw that it was good.

10 Chiamò l'asciutto «terra», e le acque raccolte le chiamò «mari». E vide che era buono.

11 Then he said, "Let the land produce vegetation: seed-bearing plants and trees that bear seed-bearing fruit, each according to its kind." And it was so.

11 Poi disse: «Produca la terra vegetazione: piante che portano seme e alberi che danno frutto con seme dentro di sé, ciascuno secondo la sua specie». E così fu.

12 The land produced vegetation: seed-bearing plants according to their kinds and trees bearing seed-bearing fruit according to their kinds. And our Father saw that it was good.

12 La terra produsse vegetazione: piante che portano seme secondo le loro specie e alberi che danno frutto con seme dentro di sé secondo le loro specie. E il nostro Padre vide che era buono.

13 And there was evening, and there was morning—the third day.

13 E fu sera, e fu mattina: il terzo giorno.

14 And our Father said, "Let there be lights in the expanse of the sky to separate the day from the night, and let them serve as signs to mark the seasons, the days, and the years,"

14 E il nostro Padre disse: «Vi siano luci nella distesa del cielo per separare il giorno dalla notte, e servano come segni per indicare le stagioni, i giorni e gli anni,

15 "and let them be lights in the expanse of the sky to give light on the earth." And it was so.

15 e siano luci nella distesa del cielo per dare luce sulla terra». E così fu.

16 Our Father made two great lights: the greater light to govern the day and the lesser light to govern the night. He also made the stars.

16 Il nostro Padre fece due grandi luci: la luce maggiore per governare il giorno e la luce minore per governare la notte. Fece anche le stelle.

17 He set them in the expanse of the sky to give light on the earth,

17 Le pose nella distesa del cielo per dare luce sulla terra,

18 to govern the day and the night, and to separate light from darkness. And he saw that it was good.

18 per governare il giorno e la notte, e per separare la luce dalle tenebre. E vide che era buono.

19 So there was evening, and there was morning—the fourth day.

19 Così fu sera, e fu mattina: il quarto giorno.

20 Then our Father said, "Let the water teem with living creatures, and let birds fly above the earth across the expanse of the sky."

20 Allora il nostro Padre disse: «Brulichino le acque di creature viventi, e volino gli uccelli sopra la terra attraverso la distesa del cielo».

21 So he created the great sea creatures and every living creature that moves and teems in the water, each according to its kind, and every winged bird according to its kind. And he saw that it was good.

21 Così creò le grandi creature marine e ogni creatura vivente che si muove e brulica nelle acque, ciascuna secondo la sua specie, e ogni uccello alato secondo la sua specie. E vide che era buono.

22 Our Father blessed them and said, "Be fruitful and multiply and fill the water in the seas, and let the birds multiply on the earth."

22 Il nostro Padre li benedisse e disse: «Siate fecondi e moltiplicatevi e riempite le acque dei mari, e si moltiplichino gli uccelli sulla terra».

23 And there was evening, and there was morning—the fifth day.

23 E fu sera, e fu mattina: il quinto giorno.

24 And our Father said, "Let the land produce living creatures according to their kinds: livestock, creatures that move along the ground, and wild animals, each according to its kind." And it was so.

24 E il nostro Padre disse: «Produca la terra creature viventi secondo le loro specie: bestiame, creature che strisciano sul suolo e animali selvatici, ciascuno secondo la sua specie». E così fu.

25 He made the wild animals according to their kinds, the livestock according to their kinds, and all the creatures that move along the ground according to their kinds. And he saw that it was good.

25 Fece gli animali selvatici secondo le loro specie, il bestiame secondo le sue specie e tutte le creature che strisciano sul suolo secondo le loro specie. E vide che era buono.

26 Then our Father said, "Let us make humanity in our image, in our likeness, so that they may rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky, over the livestock, over all the earth, and over every creature that moves along the ground."

26 Allora il nostro Padre disse: «Facciamo l'umanità a nostra immagine, a nostra somiglianza, affinché domini sui pesci del mare e sugli uccelli del cielo, sul bestiame, su tutta la terra e su ogni creatura che striscia sul suolo».

27 So our Father created humanity in their own image; in the image of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit he created them; male and female he created them.

27 Così il nostro Padre creò l'umanità a propria immagine; a immagine del Padre, del Figlio e dello Spirito Santo li creò; maschio e femmina li creò.

28 Our Father blessed them and said to them, "Be fruitful and multiply; fill the earth and subdue it. Rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky, and over every living creature that moves on the ground."

28 Il nostro Padre li benedisse e disse loro: «Siate fecondi e moltiplicatevi; riempite la terra e soggiogatela. Dominate sui pesci del mare e sugli uccelli del cielo, e su ogni creatura vivente che si muove sul suolo».

29 Then he said, "I give you every seed-bearing plant on the face of the whole earth and every tree that bears seed-bearing fruit. They will be yours for food.

29 Poi disse: «Io vi do ogni pianta che porta seme su tutta la faccia della terra e ogni albero che dà frutto con seme dentro di sé. Saranno vostri per cibo.

30 "And to all the animals of the earth, all the birds in the sky, and all the creatures that move along the ground—everything that has the breath of life in it—I give every green plant for food." And it was so.

30 E a tutti gli animali della terra, a tutti gli uccelli del cielo e a tutte le creature che strisciano sul suolo — a tutto ciò che ha in sé il soffio della vita — io do ogni pianta verde per cibo». E così fu.

31 Our Father saw all that he had made, and it was very good. So there was evening, and there was morning—the sixth day.

31 Il nostro Padre vide tutto ciò che aveva fatto, ed era molto buono. Così fu sera, e fu mattina: il sesto giorno.

1 Now there was a man of the Pharisees named Nicodemus, a ruler of the Jews.

1 Ora c'era tra i farisei un uomo di nome Nicodemo, un capo dei Giudei.

2 This man came to Jesus by night and said to him, "Rabbi, we know that you are a teacher who has come from our Father, for no one can do these signs that you do unless our Father is with him."

2 Quest'uomo venne da Gesù di notte e gli disse: «Rabbì, sappiamo che sei un maestro venuto dal nostro Padre, perché nessuno può compiere questi segni che tu compi, se il nostro Padre non è con lui».

3 Jesus replied to him, "Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born again he cannot see the kingdom of our Father."

3 Gesù gli rispose: «In verità, in verità ti dico: se uno non nasce di nuovo, non può vedere il regno del nostro Padre».

4 Nicodemus said to him, "How can a man be born when he is old? Can he enter a second time into his mother's womb and be born?"

4 Nicodemo gli disse: «Come può un uomo nascere quando è vecchio? Può forse entrare una seconda volta nel grembo di sua madre e nascere?».

5 Jesus answered, "Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Holy Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of our Father."

5 Gesù rispose: «In verità, in verità ti dico: se uno non nasce da acqua e dallo Spirito Santo, non può entrare nel regno del nostro Padre».

6 What is born of the flesh is flesh, and what is born of the Holy Spirit is spirit.

6 Ciò che è nato dalla carne è carne, e ciò che è nato dallo Spirito Santo è spirito.

7 Don't be amazed that I said to you, 'You must be born again.'

7 Non meravigliatevi se vi ho detto: "Dovete nascere di nuovo".

8 The wind blows where it wishes, and you hear its sound, but you do not know where it comes from or where it goes. So it is with everyone who is born of the Holy Spirit.

8 Il vento soffia dove vuole, e ne odi il suono, ma non sai da dove viene né dove va. Così è di chiunque è nato dallo Spirito Santo.

9 Nicodemus said to him, "How can these things be?"

9 Nicodemo gli disse: «Come possono accadere queste cose?».

10 Jesus answered him, "Are you the teacher of Israel and yet you do not understand these things?"

10 Gesù gli rispose: «Tu sei il maestro d'Israele e non comprendi queste cose?».

11 Truly, truly, I say to you, we speak of what we know, and bear witness to what we have seen, but you do not receive our testimony.

11 In verità, in verità ti dico: noi parliamo di ciò che sappiamo e testimoniamo ciò che abbiamo visto, ma voi non accogliete la nostra testimonianza.

12 If I have told you earthly things and you do not believe, how can you believe if I tell you heavenly things?

12 Se vi ho parlato di cose terrene e non credete, come crederete se vi parlerò di cose celesti?

13 No one has ascended into heaven except the one who descended from heaven, the Son of Man.

13 Nessuno è salito al cielo, se non colui che è disceso dal cielo, il Figlio dell'uomo.

14 And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, so must the Son of Man be lifted up,

14 E come Mosè innalzò il serpente nel deserto, così deve essere innalzato il Figlio dell'uomo,

15 that whoever believes in him may have eternal life.

15 affinché chiunque crede in lui abbia la vita eterna.

16 For our Father so loved the world, that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.

16 Poiché il nostro Padre ha tanto amato il mondo da dare il suo unico Figlio, affinché chiunque crede in lui non perisca, ma abbia la vita eterna.

17 For our Father did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but so that the world might be saved through him.

17 Poiché il nostro Padre non ha mandato il suo Figlio nel mondo per condannare il mondo, ma affinché il mondo sia salvato per mezzo di lui.

18 Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the one and only Son of our Father.

18 Chi crede in lui non è condannato, ma chi non crede è già condannato, perché non ha creduto nel nome dell'unico Figlio del nostro Padre.

19 And this is the judgment: the light has come into the world, and people loved the darkness rather than the light because their works were evil.

19 E questo è il giudizio: la luce è venuta nel mondo, e gli uomini hanno amato le tenebre più della luce, perché le loro opere erano malvagie.

20 For everyone who does wicked things hates the light and does not come to the light, for fear that his works will be exposed.

20 Poiché chiunque fa cose malvagie odia la luce e non viene alla luce, per timore che le sue opere siano smascherate.

21 But whoever does what is true comes to the light, so that it may be clearly seen that his works have been carried out in our Father.

21 Ma chi opera secondo la verità viene alla luce, affinché si veda chiaramente che le sue opere sono state compiute nel nostro Padre.

22 After this, Jesus and his disciples went into the Judean countryside, and there he remained with them and was baptizing.

22 Dopo questo, Gesù e i suoi discepoli andarono nella campagna della Giudea, e là si trattenne con loro e battezzava.

23 John also was baptizing at Aenon near Salim, because water was plentiful there, and people were coming and being baptized,

24 for John had not yet been put in prison.

24 poiché Giovanni non era ancora stato messo in prigione.

25 Now a discussion arose between some of John's disciples and a Jew over purification.

25 Ora sorse una discussione tra alcuni discepoli di Giovanni e un Giudeo riguardo alla purificazione.

26 And they came to John and said to him, "Rabbi, he who was with you across the Jordan, to whom you bore witness—look, he is baptizing, and all are going to him."

26 E vennero da Giovanni e gli dissero: «Rabbì, colui che era con te al di là del Giordano, al quale hai reso testimonianza — ecco, egli battezza, e tutti vanno da lui».

27 John replied, "A person cannot receive even one thing unless it is given him from heaven."

27 Giovanni rispose: «L'uomo non può ricevere nemmeno una cosa, se non gli è data dal cielo».

28 You yourselves can testify that I said, 'I am not the Christ, but I have been sent before him.'

28 Voi stessi potete testimoniare che ho detto: "Io non sono il Cristo, ma sono stato mandato davanti a lui".

29 The one who has the bride is the bridegroom — Jesus. The friend of the bridegroom, who stands and hears him, rejoices greatly at the bridegroom's voice. Therefore this joy of mine is now complete.

29 Colui che ha la sposa è lo sposo — Gesù. L'amico dello sposo, che è presente e lo ascolta, si rallegra grandemente alla voce dello sposo. Perciò questa mia gioia è ora completa.

30 He must increase, but I must decrease.

30 Bisogna che egli cresca e che io diminuisca.

31 The one who comes from above is above all. The one who is of the earth belongs to the earth and speaks in an earthly way. The one who comes from heaven is above all.

31 Colui che viene dall'alto è al di sopra di tutti. Colui che è dalla terra appartiene alla terra e parla in modo terreno. Colui che viene dal cielo è al di sopra di tutti.

32 He bears witness to what he has seen and heard, yet no one receives his testimony.

32 Egli testimonia ciò che ha visto e udito, eppure nessuno accoglie la sua testimonianza.

33 Whoever receives his testimony confirms that our Father is true.

33 Chi accoglie la sua testimonianza conferma che il nostro Padre è veritiero.

34 For the one whom our Father has sent speaks the words of our Father, for he gives the Holy Spirit without measure.

34 Poiché colui che il nostro Padre ha mandato dice le parole del nostro Padre, perché egli dà lo Spirito Santo senza misura.

35 Our Father loves the Son and has given all things into his hand.

35 Il nostro Padre ama il Figlio e ha posto ogni cosa nelle sue mani.

36 Whoever believes in the Son has eternal life; whoever does not obey the Son shall not see life, but the wrath of our Father remains on him.

36 Chi crede nel Figlio ha la vita eterna; chi non obbedisce al Figlio non vedrà la vita, ma l'ira del nostro Padre rimane su di lui.
