1 In the beginning, our Heavenly Father created the heavens and the earth.

1 No princípio, nosso Pai celestial criou os céus e a terra.

2 Now the earth was formless and empty, darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of our Father was hovering over the surface of the waters.

2 A terra era sem forma e vazia, e havia trevas sobre a face do abismo; e o Espírito de nosso Pai pairava sobre a face das águas.

3 Then our Father said, "Let there be light," and there was light.

3 Então nosso Pai disse: "Haja luz", e houve luz.

4 He saw that the light was good, and he separated the light from the darkness.

4 Ele viu que a luz era boa e separou a luz das trevas.

5 He called the light "day," and the darkness he called "night." And there was evening, and there was morning—the first day.

5 Ele chamou a luz de "dia", e às trevas chamou de "noite". E houve tarde, e houve manhã—o primeiro dia.

6 And our Father said, "Let there be an expanse between the waters to separate water from water."

6 E nosso Pai disse: "Haja um firmamento entre as águas, para separar águas de águas."

7 So he made the expanse and separated the water under the expanse from the water above it. And it was so.

7 Assim ele fez o firmamento e separou as águas que estavam debaixo do firmamento das águas que estavam por cima dele. E assim foi.

8 He called the expanse "sky." So there was evening, and there was morning—the second day.

8 Ele chamou o firmamento de "céu". Assim houve tarde, e houve manhã—o segundo dia.

9 Then our Father said, "Let the water under the sky be gathered to one place, and let dry ground appear." And it was so.

9 Então nosso Pai disse: "Ajuntem-se as águas que estão debaixo do céu num só lugar, e apareça a parte seca." E assim foi.

10 He called the dry ground "land," and the gathered waters he called "seas." And he saw that it was good.

10 Ele chamou a parte seca de "terra", e às águas reunidas chamou de "mares". E ele viu que isso era bom.

11 Then he said, "Let the land produce vegetation: seed-bearing plants and trees that bear seed-bearing fruit, each according to its kind." And it was so.

11 Então ele disse: "Produza a terra vegetação: plantas que deem semente e árvores que deem fruto com semente, cada uma segundo a sua espécie." E assim foi.

12 The land produced vegetation: seed-bearing plants according to their kinds and trees bearing seed-bearing fruit according to their kinds. And our Father saw that it was good.

12 A terra produziu vegetação: plantas que dão semente segundo as suas espécies e árvores que dão fruto com semente segundo as suas espécies. E nosso Pai viu que isso era bom.

13 And there was evening, and there was morning—the third day.

13 E houve tarde, e houve manhã—o terceiro dia.

14 And our Father said, "Let there be lights in the expanse of the sky to separate the day from the night, and let them serve as signs to mark the seasons, the days, and the years,"

14 E nosso Pai disse: "Haja luminares no firmamento do céu para separar o dia da noite, e sirvam eles de sinais para marcar as estações, os dias e os anos,"

15 "and let them be lights in the expanse of the sky to give light on the earth." And it was so.

15 "e sejam luminares no firmamento do céu para iluminar a terra." E assim foi.

16 Our Father made two great lights: the greater light to govern the day and the lesser light to govern the night. He also made the stars.

16 Nosso Pai fez dois grandes luminares: o maior para governar o dia e o menor para governar a noite. Ele fez também as estrelas.

17 He set them in the expanse of the sky to give light on the earth,

17 Ele os colocou no firmamento do céu para iluminar a terra,

18 to govern the day and the night, and to separate light from darkness. And he saw that it was good.

18 para governar o dia e a noite e para separar a luz das trevas. E ele viu que isso era bom.

19 So there was evening, and there was morning—the fourth day.

19 Assim houve tarde, e houve manhã—o quarto dia.

20 Then our Father said, "Let the water teem with living creatures, and let birds fly above the earth across the expanse of the sky."

20 Então nosso Pai disse: "Fervilhem as águas de criaturas viventes, e voem as aves sobre a terra pelo firmamento do céu."

21 So he created the great sea creatures and every living creature that moves and teems in the water, each according to its kind, and every winged bird according to its kind. And he saw that it was good.

21 Assim ele criou as grandes criaturas do mar e todo ser vivente que se move e fervilha nas águas, cada um segundo a sua espécie, e toda ave que voa segundo a sua espécie. E ele viu que isso era bom.

22 Our Father blessed them and said, "Be fruitful and multiply and fill the water in the seas, and let the birds multiply on the earth."

22 Nosso Pai os abençoou, dizendo: "Sejam férteis e multipliquem-se e encham as águas dos mares, e multipliquem-se as aves na terra."

23 And there was evening, and there was morning—the fifth day.

23 E houve tarde, e houve manhã—o quinto dia.

24 And our Father said, "Let the land produce living creatures according to their kinds: livestock, creatures that move along the ground, and wild animals, each according to its kind." And it was so.

24 E nosso Pai disse: "Produza a terra criaturas viventes segundo as suas espécies: animais domésticos, criaturas que rastejam pelo solo e animais selvagens, cada um segundo a sua espécie." E assim foi.

25 He made the wild animals according to their kinds, the livestock according to their kinds, and all the creatures that move along the ground according to their kinds. And he saw that it was good.

25 Ele fez os animais selvagens segundo as suas espécies, os animais domésticos segundo as suas espécies e todas as criaturas que rastejam pelo solo segundo as suas espécies. E ele viu que isso era bom.

26 Then our Father said, "Let us make humanity in our image, in our likeness, so that they may rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky, over the livestock, over all the earth, and over every creature that moves along the ground."

26 Então nosso Pai disse: "Façamos a humanidade à nossa imagem, conforme a nossa semelhança, para que domine sobre os peixes do mar e as aves do céu, sobre os animais domésticos, sobre toda a terra e sobre toda criatura que rasteja pelo solo."

27 So our Father created humanity in their own image; in the image of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit he created them; male and female he created them.

27 Assim nosso Pai criou a humanidade à sua própria imagem; à imagem do Pai, do Filho e do Espírito Santo os criou; homem e mulher os criou.

28 Our Father blessed them and said to them, "Be fruitful and multiply; fill the earth and subdue it. Rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky, and over every living creature that moves on the ground."

28 Nosso Pai os abençoou e lhes disse: "Sejam férteis e multipliquem-se; encham a terra e sujeitem-na. Dominem sobre os peixes do mar e as aves do céu e sobre toda criatura vivente que se move na terra."

29 Then he said, "I give you every seed-bearing plant on the face of the whole earth and every tree that bears seed-bearing fruit. They will be yours for food.

29 Então ele disse: "Eu dou a vocês toda planta que dá semente sobre a face de toda a terra e toda árvore que dá fruto com semente. Elas servirão de alimento a vocês.

30 "And to all the animals of the earth, all the birds in the sky, and all the creatures that move along the ground—everything that has the breath of life in it—I give every green plant for food." And it was so.

30 "E a todos os animais da terra, a todas as aves do céu e a todas as criaturas que rastejam pelo solo—a tudo o que tem em si o fôlego de vida—dou toda planta verde por alimento." E assim foi.

31 Our Father saw all that he had made, and it was very good. So there was evening, and there was morning—the sixth day.

31 Nosso Pai viu tudo o que havia feito, e era muito bom. Assim houve tarde, e houve manhã—o sexto dia.

1 Now there was a man of the Pharisees named Nicodemus, a ruler of the Jews.

1 Havia um homem entre os fariseus chamado Nicodemos, um dos líderes dos judeus.

2 This man came to Jesus by night and said to him, "Rabbi, we know that you are a teacher who has come from our Father, for no one can do these signs that you do unless our Father is with him."

2 Ele foi ter com Jesus de noite e lhe disse: "Rabi, sabemos que és um mestre vindo da parte de nosso Pai, pois ninguém pode fazer esses sinais que tu fazes, a não ser que nosso Pai esteja com ele."

3 Jesus replied to him, "Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born again he cannot see the kingdom of our Father."

3 Jesus lhe respondeu: "Em verdade, em verdade te digo: se alguém não nascer de novo, não pode ver o reino de nosso Pai."

4 Nicodemus said to him, "How can a man be born when he is old? Can he enter a second time into his mother's womb and be born?"

4 Nicodemos lhe disse: "Como pode um homem nascer, sendo velho? Pode, porventura, entrar pela segunda vez no ventre de sua mãe e nascer?"

5 Jesus answered, "Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Holy Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of our Father."

5 Jesus respondeu: "Em verdade, em verdade te digo: se alguém não nascer da água e do Espírito Santo, não pode entrar no reino de nosso Pai."

6 What is born of the flesh is flesh, and what is born of the Holy Spirit is spirit.

6 O que é nascido da carne é carne, e o que é nascido do Espírito Santo é espírito.

7 Don't be amazed that I said to you, 'You must be born again.'

7 Não se admirem de eu lhes ter dito: 'É necessário que vocês nasçam de novo.'

8 The wind blows where it wishes, and you hear its sound, but you do not know where it comes from or where it goes. So it is with everyone who is born of the Holy Spirit.

8 O vento sopra onde quer, e você ouve o seu som, mas não sabe de onde vem nem para onde vai. Assim é todo aquele que é nascido do Espírito Santo.

9 Nicodemus said to him, "How can these things be?"

9 Nicodemos lhe disse: "Como pode ser isso?"

10 Jesus answered him, "Are you the teacher of Israel and yet you do not understand these things?"

10 Jesus lhe respondeu: "Você é o mestre de Israel e não entende essas coisas?"

11 Truly, truly, I say to you, we speak of what we know, and bear witness to what we have seen, but you do not receive our testimony.

11 Em verdade, em verdade te digo: nós falamos do que sabemos e damos testemunho do que temos visto, mas vocês não aceitam o nosso testemunho.

12 If I have told you earthly things and you do not believe, how can you believe if I tell you heavenly things?

12 Se eu lhes falei de coisas terrenas e vocês não creem, como crerão se eu lhes falar de coisas celestiais?

13 No one has ascended into heaven except the one who descended from heaven, the Son of Man.

13 Ninguém subiu ao céu, senão aquele que desceu do céu, o Filho do Homem.

14 And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, so must the Son of Man be lifted up,

14 E, assim como Moisés levantou a serpente no deserto, assim importa que o Filho do Homem seja levantado,

15 that whoever believes in him may have eternal life.

15 para que todo aquele que nele crê tenha a vida eterna.

16 For our Father so loved the world, that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.

16 Porque tanto amou nosso Pai o mundo, que deu o seu Filho único, para que todo aquele que nele crê não pereça, mas tenha a vida eterna.

17 For our Father did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but so that the world might be saved through him.

17 Pois nosso Pai não enviou o seu Filho ao mundo para condenar o mundo, mas para que o mundo fosse salvo por meio dele.

18 Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the one and only Son of our Father.

18 Quem nele crê não é condenado, mas quem não crê já está condenado, porque não creu no nome do Filho único de nosso Pai.

19 And this is the judgment: the light has come into the world, and people loved the darkness rather than the light because their works were evil.

19 E este é o julgamento: a luz veio ao mundo, e as pessoas amaram mais as trevas do que a luz, porque as suas obras eram más.

20 For everyone who does wicked things hates the light and does not come to the light, for fear that his works will be exposed.

20 Pois todo aquele que pratica o mal odeia a luz e não vem para a luz, com receio de que as suas obras sejam expostas.

21 But whoever does what is true comes to the light, so that it may be clearly seen that his works have been carried out in our Father.

21 Mas quem pratica a verdade vem para a luz, a fim de que se manifeste claramente que as suas obras foram realizadas em nosso Pai.

22 After this, Jesus and his disciples went into the Judean countryside, and there he remained with them and was baptizing.

22 Depois disso, Jesus foi com os seus discípulos para a região da Judeia, e ali permaneceu com eles e batizava.

23 John also was baptizing at Aenon near Salim, because water was plentiful there, and people were coming and being baptized,

23 João também batizava em Enom, perto de Salim, porque havia ali muitas águas; e as pessoas vinham e eram batizadas,

24 for John had not yet been put in prison.

24 pois João ainda não tinha sido lançado na prisão.

25 Now a discussion arose between some of John's disciples and a Jew over purification.

25 Surgiu, então, uma discussão entre alguns dos discípulos de João e um judeu a respeito da purificação.

26 And they came to John and said to him, "Rabbi, he who was with you across the Jordan, to whom you bore witness—look, he is baptizing, and all are going to him."

26 E eles foram ter com João e lhe disseram: "Rabi, aquele que estava contigo do outro lado do Jordão, de quem deste testemunho—olha, ele está batizando, e todos vão a ele."

27 John replied, "A person cannot receive even one thing unless it is given him from heaven."

27 João respondeu: "Uma pessoa não pode receber coisa alguma, se não lhe for dada do céu."

28 You yourselves can testify that I said, 'I am not the Christ, but I have been sent before him.'

28 Vocês mesmos podem testemunhar que eu disse: 'Eu não sou o Cristo, mas fui enviado adiante dele.'

29 The one who has the bride is the bridegroom — Jesus. The friend of the bridegroom, who stands and hears him, rejoices greatly at the bridegroom's voice. Therefore this joy of mine is now complete.

29 Aquele que tem a noiva é o noivo — Jesus. Mas o amigo do noivo, que está presente e o ouve, alegra-se muito com a voz do noivo. Por isso, essa minha alegria está agora completa.

30 He must increase, but I must decrease.

30 É necessário que ele cresça e que eu diminua.

31 The one who comes from above is above all. The one who is of the earth belongs to the earth and speaks in an earthly way. The one who comes from heaven is above all.

31 Aquele que vem de cima está acima de todos. Aquele que é da terra pertence à terra e fala de maneira terrena. Aquele que vem do céu está acima de todos.

32 He bears witness to what he has seen and heard, yet no one receives his testimony.

32 Ele dá testemunho do que tem visto e ouvido, mas ninguém aceita o seu testemunho.

33 Whoever receives his testimony confirms that our Father is true.

33 Quem aceita o seu testemunho confirma que nosso Pai é verdadeiro.

34 For the one whom our Father has sent speaks the words of our Father, for he gives the Holy Spirit without measure.

34 Pois aquele que nosso Pai enviou fala as palavras de nosso Pai, porque ele dá o Espírito Santo sem medida.

35 Our Father loves the Son and has given all things into his hand.

35 Nosso Pai ama o Filho e entregou todas as coisas nas suas mãos.

36 Whoever believes in the Son has eternal life; whoever does not obey the Son shall not see life, but the wrath of our Father remains on him.

36 Quem crê no Filho tem a vida eterna; quem não obedece ao Filho não verá a vida, mas a ira de nosso Pai permanece sobre ele.
