Father's Heart Bible™ key-term glossary — anchored to the historic German Scriptures · Script: Latin

For the reviewer

These are the proposed renderings of FHB's key terms. The heart of the review: wherever English says our Father, the rendering must feel like a beloved child addressing their own father — warm, reverent, natural to your language's Bible — and never the distant generic word for "God." Mark anything that reads wrong, stiff, or irreverent. Tip: your browser's translate feature can back-translate this page as a second witness. Approvals or corrections go to Kevin White.

Register

Reverent, contemporary German Bible register matched to the Lutherbibel 2017 wording family — the most-trusted and most-loved German Protestant Bible — with the warm, personal cadence of address drawn from the Neue Genfer Übersetzung (NGÜ) where a child speaks to a father. Sacred vocabulary follows Luther; direct address is intimate, never stiff.

Quotation marks

German typographic quotation marks: primary „…“ (low-opening, high-closing double), nested ‚…‘ (single). Luther 2017 house style; guillemets »…« appear in some editions but are not used here.

Poetry lines

Poetry set as line-broken verse with indented continuation, each poetic colon on its own line and parallel members indented, as in Lutherbibel 2017 / Einheitsübersetzung Psalter typesetting.

#English termProposed renderingLiteral back-translationWhy
1 our Heavenly Father unser Vater im Himmel our heavenly Father Anchored to Luther 2017 (Mt 6:9) — the established rendering this language's church already prays; FHB shifts only the person (our), never the construction. Was: "unser himmlischer Vater". Sweep 2026-07-22 (Kevin: mine the existing translations, don't invent)
2 our Father unser Vater our Father Primary filial divine name; the opening of the German Lord's Prayer is 'Vater unser', so 'unser Vater' reads instantly as beloved address, not as the generic 'Gott'. NEVER revert to Gott / der HERR.
3 the Father der Vater the Father Definite filial name; John's 'der Vater' usage is standard in every German NT and needs no article change.
4 Heavenly Father der himmlische Vater the heavenly Father Definite counterpart to 'unser himmlischer Vater'; keeps the warm 'Vater' stem for conformance.
5 Abba, Father Abba, lieber Vater Abba, Father Anchored to Luther 2017 (Rom 8:15 / Mk 14:36) — the established rendering this language's church already prays; FHB shifts only the person (our), never the construction. Was: "Abba, Vater". Sweep 2026-07-22 (Kevin: mine the existing translations, don't invent)
6 God Gott God REVERSION TOKEN — the non-filial contrast word for God-as-God. Use only where English keeps 'God'; never as a substitute for 'unser Vater'.
7 the LORD der HERR the LORD (covenant name, small-caps) REVERSION TOKEN — Luther renders the covenant name YHWH as 'der HERR' in small caps, distinct from 'der Herr' (Lord/Jesus title). Never a substitute for 'unser Vater'.
8 the Holy Spirit der Heilige Geist the Holy Spirit Fixed German Bible term across all traditions (John 3 context).
9 the Spirit of our Father der Geist unseres Vaters the Spirit of our Father Relational genitive, not by-identity; keeps the 'Vater' stem and mirrors the filial vision rather than the flat 'Geist Gottes'.
10 the Son of Man der Menschensohn the Son of Man (lit. 'the human-son') Standard Luther/NGÜ compound for ho huios tou anthrōpou (John 3:13-14); the periphrastic 'der Sohn des Menschen' is understood but less idiomatic.
11 the Son der Sohn the Son Jesus as the Son; definite article as in Johannine German usage.
12 the Son of God der Sohn Gottes the Son of God Traditional Christological title retained. Reviewer to confirm vs the filial 'der Sohn des Vaters' (the Son of the Father), parallel to the Telugu తండ్రి కుమారుడు question.
13 one and only Son der einzige Sohn the only / one-and-only Son John 3:16; modern German (NGÜ/Einheitsübersetzung) renders monogenēs as 'der einzige Sohn'. Luther's beloved 'der eingeborene Sohn' (only-begotten) is the traditional alternative the reviewer may prefer.
14 the kingdom of our Father das Reich unseres Vaters the kingdom / realm of our Father Filial rendering of 'kingdom of God' (Reich Gottes, John 3:3,5); 'Reich' is the Luther term, re-anchored to 'unser Vater'.
15 Jesus Jesus Jesus Standard German form.
16 Christ Christus Christ Standard German form (John 3:28); declines as 'Christus/Christi/Christo' where case demands.
17 Messiah der Messias the Messiah Fixed German Bible term (John 1:41; 4:25), distinct from the Greek-derived 'Christus'.
18 covenant der Bund the covenant / bond Standard Luther term; 'der neue Bund' / 'der alte Bund' are the fixed collocations.
19 steadfast love beständige Liebe steadfast / constant love Renders Hebrew hesed as loyal covenant love. Reviewer to confirm vs Luther's beloved 'Güte' (Ps 136 'seine Güte währet ewiglich'), which carries the covenant sense but foregrounds kindness over love.
20 compassion Erbarmen compassion / mercy (heartfelt) Renders racham / splanchnizomai; 'Erbarmen' carries the gut-level tenderness (cf. Luther's 'es jammerte ihn'). 'Barmherzigkeit' is the abstract-quality alternative.
21 righteousness Gerechtigkeit righteousness / justice Standard Luther term covering both the forensic and ethical senses.
22 eternal life das ewige Leben the eternal life Fixed German Bible phrase (John 3:16 Luther 2017).
23 born again von neuem geboren born anew / born again John 3:3,7 Luther/NGÜ rendering of anōthen. Reviewer to note the deliberate 'von oben geboren' (born from above) alternative that some German versions foreground.

Machine conformance stems (every filial rendering must contain one): Vater
